We are excited to open nominations for the 2026 HBDR Awards, celebrating excellence, leadership, and impact across HBCU business education. This is your opportunity to recognize outstanding deans, business schools, and advisory board members, who are shaping the future.

AWARD DESCRIPTIONS AND CRITERIA
Presented to a former HBCU business dean who has had great impact on the HBCU landscape. This is the highest honor bestowed by the HBCU Business Deans Roundtable. It is named after Dr. Milton Wilson, the founder of the Howard University and Texas Southern University Schools of Business.
Main Criteria
The HBCU Business Dean must meet the following criteria:
• Demonstrated strategic vision resulting in meaningful progress within HBCUs or business education
• Service to the profession
• Impact on accreditation or academic excellence (e.g., AACSB, ACBSP, or equivalent)
• Mentorship or pipeline development work (e.g., PhD Project)
• Legacy aligned with Dr. Wilson’s values and accomplishments
Presented to an HBCU Business Deans Roundtable Advisory Board Member, who has made a long-term, substantive, and/or transformational contribution to the HBCU Business Deans Roundtable (HBDR) and its member institutions, particularly in advancing business education. This is the highest honor bestowed by the HBCU Business Deans Roundtable for an Advisory Board Member. It is named after Bernie Milano, former President of the KPMG Foundation, where he led initiatives such as the PhD Project.
Main Criteria
The advisory board member must meet the following criteria:
• Has gone above and beyond in service to the HBCU Business Deans Roundtable Advisory Board
• Exhibits leadership and has made a transformational contribution to the HBDR and its member schools
• Has demonstrated significant support and engagement with the HBCU member schools
• Embodies the legacy of Bernie Milano
Presented to a current HBCU business dean with a minimum of 10 years in the role. The award recognizes individuals who have significantly influenced faculty, students, and the broader academic community through mentorship. The award honors the legacy of Percy J. Vaughn, Jr., the founding Dean of Alabama State University's College of Business Administration. Dr. Vaughn also led the business school to earn its accreditation in 1993 from the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (formerly, Association of Collegiate Business Schools & Programs), making the business school the first HBCU business school to achieve this distinction. Dr. Vaughn also served as the President of ACBSP, which named the Percy J. Vaughn, Jr. Accreditation Library at ACBSP in his honor. This award highlights his commitment to the mentorship of students and alumni, always challenging them toward excellence in their professional pursuits and in their commitment to service.

• Commitment to mentorship of students and faculty
• Commitment to accreditation and quality improvement
• Professional development and global exposure
• Advancement of HBCU business education
• Embodies the legacy of Dean Percy Vaughn, Jr.
The Dean Quiester Craig Leadership Award recognizes an HBCU business dean who exemplifies the leadership Dr. Craig embodied throughout his illustrious career. Dr. Craig led the School of Business and Economics at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University for an unprecedented 40 years.
Main Criteria
The HBCU Business Dean must meet the following criteria:
• Advance the academic rigor and professional excellence of business programs through accreditation efforts
• Inspire innovation and leadership that impacts the business education community.
• Demonstrate unwavering commitment to the development of faculty, students, and the broader community.
The Excellence in Entrepreneurship & Innovation Award seeks to recognize the HBCU business school that has demonstrated excellence in fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and impactful business education.
Main Criteria
This award is based on a comprehensive evaluation across five key criteria and will be given to the HBCU business school whose dean leads the business school in meeting the following criteria:
1. Curriculum:
• How comprehensive and innovative is the business school’s curriculum?
• Does the curriculum integrate entrepreneurship, leadership, diversity, and inclusivity?
2. Research and Grants:
• Quantity and quality of research conducted at the business school, particularly in areas related to entrepreneurship and Black business enterprise.
• Successful grants and external funding acquired to support business education and entrepreneurial initiatives.
3. Outreach Activities to the Community:
• Efforts to engage local, national, and international communities in business-related outreach and programs.
• Community engagement initiatives that have supported or incubated new business ventures or contributed to economic empowerment.
4. Impact on Business Launches:
• The number of businesses launched by students, alumni, or faculty through the business school’s support, resources, and programs.
• Success stories of graduates or faculty who have made significant contributions to entrepreneurship or business innovation.
5. Collaboration Across Campus:
• Collaboration between the business school and other colleges or departments on campus, especially in entrepreneurship and innovation.
• Initiatives or programs that foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to enhance business education and provide a broader entrepreneurial ecosystem.
