Percy J. Vaughn, Jr. Mentorship Award

Presented to a current HBCU business dean with a minimum of 10 years in the role. The award recognizes individuals who have significantly influenced faculty, students, and the broader academic community through mentorship. The award honors the legacy of Percy J. Vaughn, Jr., the founding Dean of Alabama State University's College of Business Administration.

Dr. Vaughn also led the business school to earn its accreditation in 1993 from the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (formerly, Association of Collegiate Business Schools & Programs), making the business school the first HBCU business school to achieve this distinction. Dr. Vaughn also served as the President of ACBSP, which named the Percy J. Vaughn, Jr. Accreditation Library at ACBSP in his honor. This award highlights his commitment to the mentorship of students and alumni, always challenging them toward excellence in their professional pursuits and in their commitment to service.

Dr. Donald R. Andrews

Dr. Donald R. Andrews's Bio

Donald R. Andrews is Dean and G. Leon Netterville/Kellogg Endowed Professor in the College of Business at Southern University and A&M College, Baton Rouge, guiding the college’s strategic planning and continuous improvement. An economist with more than 40 years of experience in teaching, research, and service, Andrews leads an AACSB-accredited college and serves as principal investigator on consecutive University Center for Economic and Entrepreneurial Development grants funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (2013–2018, 2018–2023, 2023–2028). He also led the Delta Regional Authority HBCU Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Initiative (2016–2017) and served on Mayor Broome’s Transition Sub-committee for Economic Development (2017).

 

Andrews has extensive international experience designing and managing grants and development programs across Africa, Latin America, and beyond, including projects in Uganda, Liberia, South Africa, Ghana, Brazil, Russia, Armenia, Mexico, Panama, Libya, and China. He participated in numerous study tours and leadership exchanges (Brazil, Australia, Southern Africa) and contributed to leadership programs at Duke University and the University of Cape Town. Andrews has held leadership roles with Beta Gamma Sigma, AACSB International (Board and Initial Accreditation Committee), and the HBCU Business Deans RoundTable. A committed educator and faculty developer, he has completed fellowship and training programs at institutions such as Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, and Babson. His research appears in multiple peer-reviewed journals. Andrews earned degrees from Southern University (BS), University of Florida (MS), and Texas A&M University (PhD).
